Web Accessibility Statement
The NWeH website follows guidelines on accessibility set out by the W3C (the World
Wide Web Consortium). The W3C WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) produces accessibility
guidelines (WCAG 1.0 and WCAG 2.0) that are an internationally recognised benchmark
of accessibility.
In designing this website, we have applied all appropriate WAI Priority 1 and Priority
2 criteria of the WAI's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0). Our aim
is to achieve WAI Level A (Single A) compliance. There are a number of features
we provide to enhance accessibility:
Changing Text Size
We have provided the ability to enlarge text size, you can change your text size
using your browser: For Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, select Text size from
the View menu or hold the Control key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse. If
you are using another browser, please refer to your browser help to learn how to
resize text.
Access Keys
Access keys are essentially keyboard shortcuts on a website that give a keyboard
or screen-reader user quick and easy access to all the main areas of the site.
If you are using Windows and Internet Explorer pressing the ' Alt ' key in combination
with the access key will highlight that link on the page, you then press ' Enter
' to select that link. If using Firefox, press ' Shift + Alt '.
If you are using a Mac pressing the ' Ctrl ' key in combination with the access
key will automatically send you to that specific page.
The site has accesskeys for all of the menu links on the site. The top menu is the
first to use these accesskeys and starts at 0 going left to right.
The left hand navigation menu follows on from this and starts off where the top
menu left off. All sub-menus have the same accesskey as their parent to make navigation
easier.
All Access Keys are shown on this page for easier understanding.
Use of PDF Format
The site makes use of Portable Document Format (PDF). Certain documents (such as
forms and certain reports) on this site are available in PDF format, which requires
you to download and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software. We have, wherever
possible, provided a non-PDF alternative where there is a PDF document.
Our Commitment to Accessibility
We are committed to making our website accessible to all people, regardless of ability.
If you feel that this website could be easier to use, or you have difficulty accessing
any information or find that any part of the site is not accessible, please email
us.
