The University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is a co-founder of NWeH and boasts England's highest ranking department for Computer Science and the largest Medical school.

NWeH is able to draw upon the established Health Informatics function at Manchester, co-ordinated primarily by the North West Institute for BioHealth Informatics (NIBHI).  The institute provides an inter-disciplinary research environment bringing together computer scientists, software engineers, statisticians, health informaticians, bioinformaticians, epidemiologists, health economists and social scientists.

The University of Manchester and NIBHI have a track record in producing innovative software that is production quality, easy to use and embedded in applied research and healthcare environments. In addition to providing practical software, NIBHI identifies fundamental research problems via its applied work, particularly with healthcare organisations, and brings these problems back into the most relevant research team(s) - thus supporting two-way translation between theory/understanding and practice.
