Governance Committee
NWeH has been approved by the Research Ethics Society to be a health data repository.
All requests for data analysis are reviewed by an independent governance board. For further information regarding the NWeH Governance Committee please click on one of the following links: Standard Operating Procedures, Summary of Operating Procedures for access to data and Terms of Reference.
If you wish to submit an application for research to the NWeH Governance Committee please follow the stated procedure:
New applications for review by Governance Committee
1. Prior to submitting an application to the Committee, PIs are requested to get in touch with NWeH Chief Technological Officer (cto@nweh.org.uk) and discuss the feasibility of their application. Should this discussion be favourable, the PI will be required to follow points 2 to 10, below.
2. The application form can be downloaded from 'Downloads' page, byclicking here or requested by emailing governance@nweh.org.uk Please read the Guidance for Completion downloadable here: Guidance for completion of application form 3. This form should be accompanied by:
- A protocol, giving details of the research to be conducted
- A curriculum vitae of the PI, giving details of their qualifications and research experience relevant to the study being considered by the Committee.
4. The PI must be an employee of an institution in the NWeH consortium or an employee of a qualifying affiliate institution.
5. The PI must be bound either by an NHS contract of employment or hold an honorary NHS contract or an NHS research passport.
6. The PI should not be an undergraduate or Masters level student. Where the study is to be conducted by such a student, the PI should be their supervisor.
7. An electronic copy of the application form, protocol and curriculum vitae should be sent via email to governance@nweh.org.uk
8. Upon receipt of the application, the administrator will give the PI the next available slot on the agenda of the Committee and confirm those details with the PI via email. If the PI wishes, they may request that their application is reviewed at a later Committee meeting.
9. In general, significant revisions of submitted applications, prior to review by the Committee, are not permitted. If significant revisions are requested, the PI will be encouraged to withdraw the application and resubmit. If necessary, and at the discretion of the Chair, the PI may make minor revisions to the application, which will be circulated to the Committee prior to review.
Governance Committee Biographies
Dr Mary Tully (Committee Chair)
Dr Mary Tully is currently Clinical Senior Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, The University of Manchester. She also works one day per week at Salford Royal NHS Trust Hospital. Until August 2009, she was chair of Salford & Trafford NHS research ethics committee and is currently chair of NorthWest e-Health Research Governance Committee. She is an active researcher and her main research interests are about prescribing, especially hospital and non-medical prescribing, including aspects of patient safety and the measurement of the outcome of the prescribing process. She has published over 150 research papers and conference abstracts. She was awarded the British Pharmaceutical Conference Practice Research Medal in 2007. This research medal recognises individuals with the potential to become a leader in their field, and who have made a significant contribution to the field of pharmacy practice research.
