Public Health Information and Intelligence Programme

Improving Public Health Skills

The Greater Manchester Public Health Intelligence (GMPHI) Network in partnership with Northwest e-Health at the University
of Manchester are hosting and delivering a Public Health Information and Intelligence Training Programme.

The training programme is a series of 7 stand-alone modules and is targeted at those who work in, or for public health and who specialise in analysing, interpreting and presenting data, or those in the wider health workforce wishing to increase their knowledge of public health.  Based on the HealthKnowledge Training Framework, the modules cross reference the specific competencies (especially levels 4-6) of the Public Health Skills and Career Framework (PHSCF) for information and intelligence staff, and cover competency 5 in the World Class Commissioning Competencies. To reflect the needs of the audience, training is to be delivered from introductory to advanced levels.

The programme aims to aid the development of the attendee’s careers by providing them with the tools, skills and knowledge required to provide robust public health intelligence.

It will be delivered by a range of persons who have experience of working and teaching in the public health field.  Modules will be delivered in a blended format, both lectures and ‘hands-on’ workshops.

Each module will be available on 3 separate dates.  Individual courses have a maximum of 25 places, and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  All courses will be held at The University of Manchester and normally run from 10am to 4pm. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Dates have been made available for intermediate to advanced modules; however, a schedule starting in 2010 for the foundation modules is still to be finalised.  For registration and further information about the advanced modules, please visit the course timetable.  Foundation module registration will shortly follow.
