PCTs need to improve the quality of their data and its analysis
Poor quality data and a lack of analytical skills are key weaknesses in PCT commissioning, the House of Commons Health Select Committee has claimed. In a report that is highly critical of the costs of splitting purchasers and providers, the committee said that PCTs do not analsye the data they do have and do not obtain some of the data they need. It said: “It seems that many people in PCTs have no idea how to use the data. PCTs employ large numbers of staff, but too few of them seem able to analyse data effectively.”
